Autumn Equinox journal prompts
Seasonal living is all about noticing the rhythms of nature and, despite our modern urban lives, syncing ourselves up with it’s cycles and patterns. Because we are also nature, and many of our struggles, so I believe, stem from our separateness from the rest of nature. But you don’t need to renounce all your belongings and go live in a mud hut in the forest (though I am sometimes tempted to do just this!) to bring more seasonality into your life, small adjustments and celebrations are great too.
And so this brings me to the Autumn Equinox - an opportunity to pause on the cusp of one season and next, saying goodbye to summer and welcoming the -ber months with all their ochre hues, cinnamon spice and cosy clothes. The Equinox is a time when light & dark are in perfect balance, before the sun surrenders and begins to slowly tuck itself into bed for winter. Noticing the equinox provides a moment of rest during a traditionally busy time of year.
You can use the journal prompts below to create a mindful pause and self care moment at or around the equinox. Ideally, go for a mindful nature connection walk ( you can using this guided recording) then make your favourite hot drink and settle down to write. You can use all the prompts, or just the ones that feel most relevant to you.
Reflecting on summer: What have you been grateful for? What have you learned from any challenges you've faced? What do you want to celebrate?
The equinox is a time of balance...what feels nicely balanced in your life at present? What feels imbalanced? And what steps can you take to adjust this?
Autumn is the season of letting go… What are you ready to release? What are you resisting releasing? What might letting go make space for in your life?
What are you noticing in nature? Is there anything you’re especially drawn to at the moment? What feelings do these connections evoke? Could there be a message for you from nature at this time of year....what might it be?
Considering the season approaching, what are your intentions for autumn? Choose up to 3 words or phrases that you want to focus on in the coming months.
This is a time for feasting together! Who do you want to spend time with? What will you do together? Make a plan to connect with them soon.
