Beltane journaling

hawthorn at beltane

Whilst I wouldn’t describe myself as a Pagan, I do like to use the wheel of the year as part of my nature connection practice; it gives a pleasing rhythm to life and helps me celebrate each season for what it brings and teaches.

Beltane is a fire festival celebrated on 1st May. Nature bursting with life at this time; the darling buds are plump with potential, hedgerows are frothing with creamy flowers, lambs are tottering through the fields and baby birds are chirping hungrily.

Themes connected to this time are: sunlight, sex, fertility, creativity, joy, energy, fun, growth & healing/cleansing.

Seasonal celebrations such as Beltane offer us an opportunity to pause, take stock and reset for the weeks ahead. I recommend going for a walk in nature, using your senses to fully engage with your environment to soak up the season and then settle down with your journal and your favourite refreshing drink.

Beltane journal prompts

Journal prompts for Beltane:

What makes you feel energised and alive at the moment?

What excites you and puts a fire in your belly?

Are you having enough fun? If not, what would be fun for you and how can you make time for it?

How’s your sex life? Be honest yet gentle with yourself. What would inviting more sensuality into your life look and feel like?

What simple pleasures are bringing you joy this season? Name 3.

What are you growing - literally, metaphorically or both - at the moment?

If you were to jump over the Beltane bonfire, what is is that you would like to be cleansed of?

Between now and the summer solstice (21st June) what are your priorities?
